Description

The Bermanzi Hiking Trail and Guest House is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Settled in Belfast on the gorgeous Mpumalanga escarpment, just 2 hours from Gauteng.

Bermanzi is the place where you can break away from reality and immerse yourself in nature.

HIKING TRAIL

Bermanzi offers a 20 kilometre two day trail which has been likened to scenes from the Lord of the Rings (Country Life Magazine, March 2012 edition, page 32 to 35) and parts of which were in fact featured in the Ghost and the Darkness, starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer. However, to describe in words or capture on film its totality is nearly impossible.

The trail will take you on a journey from high on the escarpment, between sheer cliffs, over rivulets and under suikerbos, only to rapidly descend through the dense indigenous forest into a deep gorge to meet a river cascading through trees and cliffs. Along the gushing waters it will take you up the ravine, past deep river pools set against high rock faces and through a mystical forest with ancient yellow wood guiding your way to a majestic waterfall down the vertical gorge wall.

VAKASHANI GUEST HOUSE

The self-catering accommodation, at Vakashani Guest House, is suitable for up to 10 people looking for comfortable, affordable accommodation. The guest house sleeping facilities can accommodate 2 people in a fully furnished private suite or up to 50 people at a time in the hikers’ quarters. The self-catering cottage has three full bathrooms and is equipped with all of the necessary amenities, including cookware, crockery, cutlery, an electric stove/oven, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, a fireplace, satellite television and braai facilities.

The lounge and main bedroom are fit with balconies offering spectacular views of the Komati River Valley, a great place to end off your day.

The cottage is named ‘Vakashani’, which is a Swazi word related to having a good time.

IN THE ROCKS 4 TWO

The private suite, aptly named ‘In the Rocks 4 Two‘, offers a romantic getaway with a bedroom en-suite, a fireplace, satellite television and its own kitchenette with an electric stove, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, crockery and cutlery. The suite has its own patio and braai facilities with exquisite views of the mountains.

THE STABLES

The original farm stables were converted into hikers’ quarters. The Stables provides comfortable accommodation in rooms furnished with bunk beds or mattresses, and a large loft with mattresses. It also offers two bomas with braai facilities and two large kitchens with all of the necessary amenities, including electric stoves, refrigerators, and pots. The ample ablution facilities have hot and cold showers and flush toilets. The Stables primarily cater to hikers but are also suitable for other holiday makers as well as church and youth groups.

A rock-pool is suitable for swimming during summer and is within walking distance of the various guest house accommodation options.
