Perched on the edge of a knoll forming part of the magnificent Mount Anderson Pass and surrounded by indigenous lush forests, is the beautiful Mbulwa Lodge situated near Sabie, Mpumalanga.
ABOUT US
The lodge is a 38 hectare estate, with understated cottage architecture of wood and stone buildings, designed by Steffan Arends in the early 1960’s. This has become an exclusive lodge and perfect mountain top retreat for the discerning traveller. The lodge is surrounded by lush vegetation and boasts an unmatched panoramic view of the Sabie Valley.
The lodge is ideally situated and uniquely positioned to offer you an experience entrenched in breath-taking views, surrounded by nature, and removing you from the hustle and bustle of city life. The lodge is centrally located to a number of waterfalls, historical sights and the Kruger National Park.
The lodge prides itself on its excellent guest relations, and although the lodge is exclusive and upmarket, it offers a calm luxurious feeling with delicious meals prepared by the in-house Chef.
History
The lodge is steeped in South African Mining and Forestry history. It was once the home of Charles Engelhard Jnr. Charles was an American business tycoon who controlled an international mining and metals conglomerate, a major owner of thoroughbred horses as well as a candidate in the 1955 New Jersey State Senate elections.
In its time, it has hosted every notable South African from the business, political and social spheres, a large number of British and American businessmen and politicians, not to mention the representatives of European royalty and aristocracy. After Charles’ death in 1971, the lodge was bought by a prominent South African family as a getaway, and is now owned by York Timbers (Pty) Ltd.

Stay over at the lodge in our luxurious rooms either overlooking the sprawling lawns on the mountain top or the beautiful Sabie Valley from your own personal veranda. The lodge can accommodate up to 36 people at a time.
